Prophet’s mosque

This print shows part of the Prophet’s Mosque in the city of Madinah in Saudi Arabia with the Green Dome built in 1817 above the tomb of the Prophet, painted green since 1837.

Minarets
The minaret in the forefront is the Bab al-Baqi Minaret, located over the AlBaqi Gate and decorated with beautiful examples of Mamluki art, is the minaret from where the muadhdhin calls adhan, also called Raisiyya, built ca. 700.

The AsSalam Gate minaret, in the background, was originally commissioned in 1307 by Muhammad ibn Kalavun and later renovated by Mehmed IV in the 17th century in typical Ottoman style.

Square umbrellas

There are 250 electric umbrellas with humidifying fans to provide shade to over 500,000 visitors covering the outdoor square. The white marble of the square helps to keep the space cool.
